Want To Be Featured In One Of Our Television Shows?

Image of Sendy BrownWe are looking for talented and interesting musical performers, either individual persons or groups, to showcase in future television shows. Do you perform with a unique or uncommon instrument or do you have a unique musical style? Can you play Phillip Glass or Metallica on the harp? Sing the mad scene from Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor? Perform a punk rock musical version of Titus Andronicus? Great! We'd love to feature you in an upcoming show. We are not limited to any specific musical style or genre. Our only requirement is that you perform your style very well.

If you are interested in being featured in one of our television shows, please read the following material. It explains the process we use in identifying and selecting talent. If you would like to be considered, send an e-mail with your contact information and your website address as well as any other descriptive information about your music or group that you feel is appropriate.

Image of Mixer BoardHere's how we work. Approximately every month or two we schedule a production day at one of our two warehouse studios located in the Dulles Airport area. Typically this is on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and evening. We will record two performers and/or groups in the one day. Each group or performer will need to be prepared to perform about 45 minutes of material. All audio is recorded on a multi-track recorder for re-mixing to CD-quality for the program and DVD. Bring your groupies for a studio audience, and remember there's always a party afterwards.

Using the recorded material, we edit and produce a 28 minute television program of each performer. This program, named Live At Best Checks, is submitted to multiple cable systems in the Washington DC area for broadcast (click here to see our broadcast schedule). They will generally broadcast the program weekly for at least one month, but most are known for broadcasting good musical programs periodically over the course of a year or more. We will also provide you with a DVD of the program for your use and/or distribution. We also share portions of our recorded material with the Larz from Mars show, also on channel 69, and Larz will usually invite you to be interviewed on his talk show. This is at your option, but it provides you with some additional publicity and promotional opportunities.

Image of wall with blacklightWe do this for fun, as a hobby. Our time and resources are limited. We produce our shows with a volunteer crew and without financial compensation so we are highly selective in determining who we invite to appear on our shows. We want to make the production process and resulting television program both interesting and fun for everyone involved.

So what's our process for identifying musicians to invite to participate in our shows? First, we need to know who you are. Use the e-mail link at the end of this page to send us basic information about yourself and/or your group, including contact information. Second, we need to hear your music. Ideally you have a website with mp3's so we can listen via the web, but if not, we will require that you provide a CD or other audio file of sufficient quality so that we can fully appreciate your music and understand your level of virtuosity. Third, we need to see you in a live performance. This is the only way we can determine your staging and audio requirements, and select which of our studio spaces would be appropriate for your style of music. It also helps us with scheduling similar types of performer(s) for the production day. If your website includes your live performance schedule, we will use that information to coordinate a time to see you in performance, otherwise you will need to let us know, via e-mail, when and where you will be performing in the greater Washington DC area.

The Live At Best Checks show is broadcast on cable systems so you and everyone in your group that appears on screen or performs on the audio recording will need to sign a talent release form in order for us to submit the material for broadcast. Our standard release gives us the right to use the audio and video material for non-commercial use only. You retain all rights to your copyrighted songs and audio performance.

Interested? Send an e-mail with your contact information and your website address as well as any other descriptive information about your music or group that you feel is appropriate. Thanks!
